What does Eurocentric white theology say (or not say) about economic inequality and systemic racism? What does the Bible look like from a decolonized lens?

Each Tuesday from May 31 to June 21 (National Indigenous People’s Day) 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm Pacific Time, you’re invited on a journey to Decolonize the Bible in this interactive online learning series. Feel free to invite your friends, family and co-workers as well!

2022 Session Dates:

May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21

  • 4:00 – 5:30 pm PDT

  • 5:00 – 6:30 pm MDT

  • 7:00 – 8:30 pm EDT

What You'll Learn:

Using the teachings of Lisa Sharon Harper (President & Founder of Freedom Road) and Rev. René August (co-director of The Justice Conference South Africa), each week we will:

  • Watch curated excerpts from Freedom Road’s How to Decolonize the Bible recorded webinars

  • Read select Bible verses through different lenses of power: social, economic, political, religious, and geographical

  • Discuss key concepts and practice power analysis in small and large groups

This series has been designed so that each week builds on one another. You’ll get the most out of the series if you attend all four live, but every session will be available recorded for replay in case you aren’t able to make it. Handouts will also be provided.

“Decolonizing the Bible” is for you if:
  • You desire reconciliation and redemption with people who have been harmed by the Church/Christianity;

  • You’ve read the Bible only/primarily through a Eurocentric white lens;

  • Your Bible studies were taught using the NIV, NKJV or ESV;

  • You grew up believing Jesus is white (spoiler alert: he’s not!)

If you’re still not sure whether this series is for you, here’s a taste of what you’ll get:
